Post the success of Super Dancer, Sony Entertainment Television is all set to entertain us with Indian Idol. The 9th season of the popular singing reality show, which is going to premiere on 24th December 2016, marks the comeback of its original trio of judges, Farah Khan, Sonu Nigam and Anu Malik, who have come together on the platform after 12 years! The channel launched the show in a grand ceremony in Mumbai last night in the attendance were all the three judges.
They introduced the media to four of their final contestants, of which one was LV Revanth. He performed on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s song Bulleya. Seeing him perform, anyone could have make out that he is a seasoned singer who knows how to perform in front of a live audience. Soon Karan Wahi, who will be hosting this season, announced that he is the same guy who sung Manohari in Baahubali. He then asked him to hum some lines from that song. He sung the song and the entire audience started hooting and clapping.
There is no doubt that he is a complete performer and has the potential to go way ahead in the show, but how justified is it to pick an established singer in a talent show in place of someone who is in dire need of a platform. What was the rationale behind it ?
Anu said “We have picked up them also. And the rationale is that yeh manch nahi yeh rishta hai jo bharat ko bharat se jodta hai, you would have heard these lines. Till date, we have never got any South Indian singer Go back to Indian Idol’s previous seasons, we never got. This season, if we would have want, we could have avoided because they don’t speak our language. The unique part of this boy was he couldn’t speak Hindi but when he started singing in Hindi, I, Sonu and Farah looked at each other. We weren’t told earlier that he is from South, he came and told us that he has already sung. Personally as a judge and even for Sonu and Farah, we didn’t want to miss this singer because he hasn’t sung any Hindi song, he doesn’t know Hindi language, he can’t speak it but he sings well. If he would have sung Hindi songs earlier then maybe I would have said that you have got the experience.”
